This article is about a sewage leak in Coronado into Batiquitos Lagoon and near Ponto Beach. An estimated 27,000 gallons have released from a broken-pipe, although not all 27,ooo gallons have reached the the lagoon because the city has large tanker trucks on site to capture the flows. This relates to the BP oil spill that occured about 2 years ago although it wasn't exactly an oil spill, the circumstances are similar due to the fact that now there is contaminated water. I chose this article because it's quite close to home and it continuously occurs in our beaches, this is a huge problem for us because the beaches we use as a source of recreational activities yet at the same time we are slowly corrupting them. Sewage pollution at lagoons has been problematic along the county's coastline in recent years because numerous wastewater pipes crisscross the wetlands and they are often hard to inspect and upgrade; a major flaw in our city.
