Article 14-Plastic Bags to be banned in California
Plastic bags are to soon be banned from California. AB 298 would ban single-use plastic bags at all supermarkets and convenience stores by 2015. The bill would charge a fee for recycled paper bags and require grocery stores to sell reusable bags. Solana Beach was the first San Diego city to pass a plastic bag ban earlier this month. Shoppers there must now bring their own bags or pay 10 cents for a paper bag. Other cities in the region may soon follow before the state bill is voted on.
I chose this article because this is a big controversy right now. Many consumers are actually recycling the plastic bags as trash bags or using them for other useful purposes. In addition, these retail stores actually sell cloth bags to shop with, that you can use every time you go shopping. I agree with banning plastic bags because a lot of times people just throw them out and it pollutes the environment, specifically the ocean.
