What we throw awayCity environmental services officials are studying what is being thrown away at the Miramar Landfill. The city is beginning a year-long project to analyze the composition of city waste, to identify things that people could recycle instead. However, the city has improved reducing their waster disposal from 1.7 million tons in 1999 to 1.4 million tons in 2011. They are trying to conserve the landfill so we have a place to throw our trash away and reintroduce the idea of recycling again. I chose this article because recently our APES class has gone on a fieldtrip to the Miramar Landfill, learning about how the work and their tours on trying to educate the public to preserve the landfill.
